RON 95 will be making its nationwide debut come September 2009, and RON 92 will no longer be offered for sale. the New Straits Times reported that come September 2009, RON 95 PRICE will be sold at RM1.75 per litre and RON 97 will be sold at RM2.00 per litre. RON 97 will become a premium product, similar to Shell’s V-Power, which currently retails at RM2.05 per litre.
Shell Unleaded 95 fuel is now available at our first Shell station in the Klang Valley, in support of the Malaysian Government’s move to introduce RON95 fuel in the market in helping Malaysians. This new fuel will continue to deliver on Shell’s fuels quality benefit and complements our aspiration of helping our customers get the most out of every drop.

1. What is RON?
RON stands for Research Octane Number. It measures the combustion properties of the fuel.

2. What do the numbers 95 and 97 mean?
The numbers 95 and 97 represent the minimum RON value of a fuel that will prevent “engine knocking”.
3. What is “engine knocking”?
Engine knocking happens when fuel combusts prematurely before ignition by the spark plug, which causes a “knocking” effect, resulting in loss of power. Using the appropriate minimum RON fuel that is recommended by your vehicle manufacturer will ensure that combustion happens at the high time to avoid “engine knocking”.
4. What is the minimum RON requirement for my car?
Your vehicle’s manual should specify what minimum RON value fuel to use. Sometimes, this information is printed on or around the refuelling cap. If unsure, please check with your vehicle manufacturer, authorised vehicle distributor or with an authorised mechanic.
