WORLD KITE FEST IN PASIR GUDANG ATTEMP BOOK OF RECORDS

 

Pasir Gudang world kite fest attempting for the Malaysia Book of Records when 3,000 kites will be flown at the same time by students from the Pasir Gudang area. With the theme “Colouring the Sky” the festival will run from 16 to 20 February 2011 at Bukit Layang-Layang, Pasir Gudang, Johor, bringing participants from over 25 countries showcase their skills with colourful kite-flying soar across the sky. Visitors can enjoy creative kite shows from international participants such as stunt kite-flying, kite workshops and kite exhibitions.

Starting on 16 February, as the state plays host to the prestigious annual Pasir Gudang World Kite Fest 2011. Considered to be one of the best and most organised kite festivals in the world, the 16th Pasir Gudang World Kite Fest will showcase the skills and creativity of local and international kiters. With the theme “Colouring the Sky” the festival will run from 16 to 20 February 2011 at Bukit Layang-Layang, Pasir Gudang, Johor. His Royal Highness, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, the Sultan of Johor, will grace the opening ceremony on 19 February 2011 at 2pm.
International participation for 2011 has also increased with 190 participants from 30 countries. They are from Australia, Austria, Brazil, Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Kuwait, Lebanon, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, USA and Vietnam.  500 local participants from the public, government and private sectors have also registered their participation this year.
The World Kite festival is organised by Pasir Gudang Municipal Council (MPPG) and Johor State Goverment , Johor Tourism Department with the support of Ministry of Tourism Malaysia, Ministry of Information Communications and Culture Malaysia and Johor Kite Association. A lot of activities could be participated by visitor likes learn a thing or two  about  kite  making at the  workshops  and  demostration  sessions.  If you  feel  confident  of your skills, you  may  even  participate  in the wau-making  contest. The festival  grounds  will be peppered  with a  variety  of stalls  offering  food, snacks, souvenirs  and collectibles. Be entertained  by a line up of exciting  cultural performances  and do remember to pay a visit to the Kite Museum located within the festival site.

 

 
Besides, the Pasir Gudang Kite Museum or Muzium Layang-Layang Pasir Gudang is the first of it’s kind in Malaysia.  Built as an appreciation towards the contribution of Malaysian and International  kite flyers. Opening it’s door for the first time in February 2002 during the 7th Pasir Gudang Kite Festival.  Housing a collection of more than 200 kites which once roam the skies of Bukit Layang-Layang as well as hundreds of the traditional kite heritage of Malaysia known as Wau. It also houses a collection of Ceramic Vases.  While there checkout our Wau Making Workshop which will  guide you thru the process of Wau Making right from the start and bring home your very own Wau.
