BIGGEST MYDIN HYPERMARKET ECO-FRIENDLY BIODIVERSITY

Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (Mydin) is to open an
environment-friendly hypermarket in Bandar Meru Raya in March next year.

Managing Director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said the RM150 million hypermarket will
have solar panels and T5 energy-saving and consumer-friendly lights.

He said the 750,000 square feet hypermarket, the biggest among the Mydin
hypermarket chain in the country, will have a scenic greenery landscape with various species of palms and trees planted in the vicinity.

“We will plant as many trees as possible, much more than requested by the Ipoh City Council (MBI). Keen competition among hypermarket operators warrants us to go to the customers.

“With the environment-friendly landscape, I believe we can woo customers to
remain loyal with us and also pave the way to attract new customers.

“With the Perak economy expected to remain robust, we believe this hypermarket will receive good response from consumers and to compete with other hypermarkets and supermarkets in the state,” he told reporters after the launch of BioDcity@meru raya, a biodiversity development centre, by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.

Ameer said the hypermarket will create 800 jobs and business premises to other traders.

On another Mydin hypermarket in Gugusan Manjoi which has been deferred, he said the project will be re-started after the documentation with the MBI has been completed.

Construction work will start after the MBI gave its approval, he said, adding
that the hypermarket in Manjoi may open earlier than the one in Meru Raya due to its smaller size.

Ameer said Mydin Mohamed Holdings also planned to open 13 hypermarkets
nationwide in two years, making it 18 in its chain of hypermarkets.

Mydin also runs 65 emporiums in the country.
