BEST BUY A CHEAPER SMARTPHONE IN MALAYSIA AFTER 10% TAX EXAMPTION

All mobile phone expected to increase sales due to 10% sales tax been taken away in Malaysia Budget 2011. This would definitely encourage people to buy mobile phones and chances for them to upgrade phone technology.

“The sales tax exemption is welcomed news and it is something that the ministry has been appealing for,” Dr Ongkili said after launching the 53rd World Scouts Jamboree On The Air (Jota) and 14th World Scout Jamboree On The Internet (Joti), organised by the Sabah branch of the Scouts Association of Malaysia at Simpang Mengayau or the Tip of Borneo here on Saturday. Handphone sales set to soar  from the current penetration rate was relatively high at 108.1% for the first quarter of the year.
Dr Ongkili said previously only PDAs, which were considered a luxury phone, were exempted from the tax. “The exemption across-the-board will now allow more people to upgrade their phones,” he added. “This would be good for the industry,” he added. Definitly with more demand for high end smartphone  and Internet-enabled phones, local developers would be spurred to innovate further to fulfil the demand for content and phone applications
