TM Eyes Over 30 Channels On HyppTV By Year-end
KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) — Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) aims to offer more than 30 channels through its HyppTV Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service by year-end from 22 channels currently.

“We are negotiating with content providers and hope more than 30 contents by year-end,” its executive vice-president of consumer, Jeremy Kung, told a media briefing here Tuesday.

Kung also urged local content providers to use the IPTV platform as an avenue to showcase their contents, adding that the government has put in seed money to help them establish their contents.

HyppTV was launched on March 24 together with TM’s high-speed broadband (HSBB) service, UniFi.

HyppTV is available to all UniFi HSBB residential customers as part of its triple-play offering comprising phone, IPTV and high-speed Internet services on a basic, premium and pay-per-view of video-on-demand (VoD) package basis.

Kung said UniFi subscribers currently enjoyed 22 free linear TV channels and more than 20 exciting new VoD titles, refreshed every month as a value-added service.

“We are excited about HyppTV’s potential reach in conjunction with UniFi’s service expansion to more areas, and TM will be ramping up efforts to woo more customers,” Kung said.

Kung said TM expected six to eight per cent of the 750,000 premises to be connected to UniFi by year-end and to become the subscribers of HyppTV.

Currently, TM has 5,000 UniFi customers.

The HyppTV is offered via the residential packages — VIP5 at RM149 per month, VIP10 at RM199 per month and VIP20 at RM249 per month.

  1. Unifi has cheated us. Now they start charging for more than 50% of its free IPTV services, which left only 8 channels for free now. When we signed up we were promised more than 20+ channels free!
    What a scam!

  2. Unifi is a sham, a disgrace to Malaysia MSC status. since I installed in July 2010, the services have been poor. The IPTV is always not working properly, down for one reason or another. Have been informed all the time “it’s a network” problem and expecting me to accept it? Promise of over 20+ free channel is bulls – there are only 7 so called free channels. We are getting all the local channels even without Unifi so these channels they claimed are free are rubbish. Now, TM claiming to give 30 free?? Live up to your words, TM.

IPTV Is not a new technology – it has been in used in Singapore and many other countries for years and working well in these countries. Why it cannot work in Malaysia is a wonder.

The Unifi phone always get cut off mid way especially to another Unifi telephone and so far TM cannot rectify the problem.

  3. nak langgan

  4. 22 free channels !!! That is only an empty promises. Once u r in contract with them, u cant get out for 24 months, within which u just get cheated more!
this is truly a professional scam
