It is also to celebrate the regazettement of the Kota Damansara forest as a forest reserve by the Selangor state government.

The concert, which will be hosted by Daphne Iking, will include performances by the Philharmonic Society of Selangor, Tree Theatre Group, Nicole-Ann Thomas and Janet Lee.

Apart from the concert, informative and fun activities lined up throughout the mega celebration include movie-screening, games, night-hiking, camping, hash runs, D.I.Y corner and a forum by renowned architects as speakers.

“Earth Day is celebrated only once a year, I hope that we would all continue to not just celebrate, but to work to save the planet. I hope that everyone will come to the Kota Damansara Forest Reserve on April 24 and 25,” tourism, consumer affairs and environment committee chairman Elizabeth Wong said.

The main objective of the celebration is to provide a platform for the community to interact with the environment and at the same time to educate and instill the importance of preserving a green earth for future generations.

In line with the 3R concept (reduce, reuse, recycle) and also the success of the No Plastic Day in Selangor, Wong, who is also Bukit Lanjan assemblyman, said she hoped that everyone would take this opportunity to spread the awareness of saving the environment.

The event is urging the community to reduce the use of plastic bags. It will also be a polystyrene-free weekend.

Therefore, everyone is encouraged to bring their own food containers to the event.

In addition, a local brand, Anplas Bag which is also embracing the no plastic bag effort is giving away free 200 stylish Anplas Bag worth RM39.90. The bags are made of canvas material.

The bags are available on a first-come, first-served basis to those who cut out this article and redeem the bag on April 25 at the celebration.

To demonstrate how serious the organisers are taking the recycling effort, even the canvas backdrop of the event will be made into bags to be given away to performers at the event.
