PAGGIO MP3 140 MPG HYBRID:FIRST ECO 3 WHEELS SCOOTER BEST PERFORMANCE- JIMAT MINYAK
The Piaggio MP3 Hybrid ingeniously combines a fuel-powered engine with an electric motor in a manner that enhances scooter performance . This parallel hybrid drive system creates a vehicle that is both powerful and environmentally friendly. With a touch of a button, your scooter can run on electricity alone while producing zero emissions. Easily switch back to fuel power by again touching a button.

Piaggio has introduced a hybrid version of its three-wheeled MP3 scooter.
The Piaggio MP3 Hybrid uses a gasoline-fueled internal combustion engine and a lithium-ion battery-powered electric motor. The two power plants are mechanically and electronically linked in a parallel hybrid configuration. This allows the MP3 Hybrid to operate with both gasoline engine and electric motor working together or with just the motor allowing for a fully zero emission mode.

Do you like the idea of reducing your carbon footprint but not the reality of ditching your conventional automobile? Many city dwellers have opted to go the scooter route for those shorter trips around town. They save money on fuel, take up less space and are better all-around for the environment than most cars and SUVs. If you’re researching scooters, you might want to check out the newest scooter from the Piaggio Group, the makers of Vespa. What makes this three-wheeled scooter unique is that it is the world’s first hybrid scooter to hit the market.

As the only vehicle to currently use lithium ion batteries, the Piaggio MP3 Hybrid has revolutionized auto industry standards for energy-efficient vehicles. The Piaggio MP3 Hybrid can travel approximately twice as far on the same gallon of gas as a typical fuel powered scooter with a mid-sized engine. In addition, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by more than 50% as compared to a conventional gas-powered internal combustion engine scooter. This ride is an innovative option for those who care about the future of the world in which we live.

The Ride-by-Wire electronic accelerator system is another first for a scooter. As you control the torque via the throttle or brake, the integrated electronic management system of the Piaggio MP3 Hybrid determines the optimal amount of power that it needs and the degree to which to divide it from the two sources. Even when you’re slowing down – or braking – the integrated management system is at work storing power in the battery for future use. After enjoying a day on the open road, just plug in the Piaggio MP3 Hybrid, and in approximately three hours it will be fully charged. As the first vehicle in the world to utilize lithium ion batteries, your scooter offers peak performance for an extended period as compared to other energy source options.

Piaggio has released a video explaining how the technology behind the MP3 Hybrid works. The revolutionary Italian scooter has a claimed 140mpg and it is the world’s first plug-in, lithium ion, hybrid leaning three-wheeler. So now you know why there is so much fuss about it.

The batteries can be recharged by plugging the MP3 Hybrid to a regular electric socket. Piaggio says a full charge takes up to three hours while a two hour charge time will provide 85%. The batteries are also charged by the combustion engine when it is running. The MP3 Hybrid also uses regenerative braking to charge the batteries.

A ride-by-wire electronic power control system controls acceleration and the onboard electronic Vehicle Management System determines how much power to draw from the engine and the motor, depending on operating conditions. The electric motor is also used to provide brisk acceleration, such as when moving from a standing start, providing, according to Piaggio, up to an 85% boost in performance.

The MP3 Hybrid runs in four modes, all selectable by the “Hy Tech” button located on the right handlebar:
hybrid power,
hybrid charge,
full electric
and reverse.

The hybrid power mode uses both the engine and the motor to power the rear wheel. According to Piaggio, the MP3 Hybrid has a fuel efficiency of 141 mpg under this combined power mode.

In hybrid charge mode, the 124cc liquid-cooled four-stroke single-overhead cam four-valve engine is the primary power plant, powering the MP3 Hybrid while also charging its batteries.

The full electric mode turns off the engine, powering the MP3 Hybrid with just electric power.

The reverse mode also uses the electric motor and allows the MP3 Hybrid to move backwards.

Beyond the hybrid technology, the scooter offers the same features as the regular MP3. The two front wheels tilt using Piaggio’s quadrilateral front suspension system. The hybrid version also uses the electronic front suspension lock to allow the rider to stop without needing to put his or her feet on the ground.

The instrument panel has been updated to include a battery charge indicator and an indicator that lights when the vehicle is plugged in and recharging. The MP3 Hybrid also receives a new horn, useful when running in the silent electric mode.

The batteries are located in a compartment under the saddle, but there is still enough room to store a helmet and other objects in the rear-opening compartment.

The Piaggio MP3 Hybrid will be available in Europe in August.

The Hytech hybrid technology operates in three drive modes – Hybrid Charge, Hybrid Power and Electric, switchable on the move via a button on the handlebars, with an electric reverse also available at a standstill to help park the bulky machine.

Hybrid Power works well giving extra acceleration, but the MP3 hybrid is heavy for a 125 (249kg), so it won’t match a 250 as Piaggio claim and it struggles to get much over 50mph. Piaggio claim a maximum battery range of 24 miles, so it’s effect is limited unless your daily miles are less than that, or you can recharge it for 3 hours at your destination.

Hybrid Charge gives a lesser boost effect and accelerates at the same rate as a conventional two-wheel 125, and gives more charge back to the battery at constant speed so range is improved.

Electric-only mode is intended for special zero-emission zones in European town centres – which don’t exist in the UK, so the 30km/h speed and 11 mile range means there’s not a practical use for it – maybe in a long queue of stationary traffic, but that’s it.
