GOLD NINTENDO Wii: A PERFECT GIFT JUST FOR QUEEN ELIZABETH

GOLD NINTENDO Wii: A PERFECT GIFT JUST FOR QUEEN ELIZABETH

It seems THQ really wanted to throw their hats in the “tech-gift giving to the Queen” ring and have decided to bestow upon her Majesty a Nintendo Wii. But this isn’t just any old Wii console. Rather, this one’s plated in gold.
It seems this fancy gift is a sort of publicity effort for THQ’s upcoming Big Family Games. The game is set to be targeted for the entire family and was thought to be the perfect game to give to the Queen.

Plus, the company thought she deserved something better than a standard console, hence the gold-plating. So, really this is obviously just meant to attract attention to the new Big Family Games title, but I still think it’s funny to imagine the Queen seeing this gold plated thing arrive

The Game Publisher THQ has offered a  gold-plated  free Nintendo Wii console to Queen Elizabeth as part of the marketing campaign of the BIG Family games series.

In comparison, President Obama gave the Queen a bog-standard Apple iPod player preloaded with a few songs. According to THQ product manager Danielle Robinson, BIG Family games is “the ultimate Wii game to get all family members, from grandparents to young children, playing together.” The game allows users to play golf, tennis, ladder golf, lawn darts or horseshoes as well as 20 other games.

Hopefully, the Queen who has started Twittering back in March, visited Google and Youtube‘s UK Headquarters and unveiled a new Royal website in February could well become a game icon for a generation of elderly gamers. After all, the Queen is apparently playing with her children and grand-children, then it must be culturally acceptable to do so.

She already has a Wii Console though which was gifted to her by her grandson, Prince William, last Christmas. The Golden Wii console, embellished by Gold Genie, will cost you £499 excluding VAT and delivery, roughly three times the usual cost. It comes with matching (Golden) Wiimote and Nunchuck.

Last year it was revealed that the Q-wii-n had got hooked playing on Prince William’s Wii and in particular a ten-pin bowling game.

But now she will not have to wait her turn after being sent the specially commissioned gold finished gaming machine – a lot more fitting for a monarch than white plastic.

The console was sent to Buckingham Palace by games publisher THQ Inc along with a copy of their latest game ‘BIG Family Games’ which includes golf, tennis, ladder golf and lawn darts.

Her Royal Highness will be able to play against other royals like Prince Philip and Prince Charles or on her own … once she gets used to calling her character a Mii rather than a One.

Danielle Robinson of THQ, said: “BIG Family Games is the ultimate Wii game to get all family members, from grandparents to young children, playing together. The Royal Family is arguably the most important family in the country so we felt that they had to have a copy of the new game.

“But we thought that Her Majesty the Queen wouldn’t want to play on any old console, so an extra-special gold one was commissioned. We hope that she and the rest of the Royal Family enjoy the game!”
